For the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) wanted a closing piece that could capture the spirit of the tournament and extend its reach beyond matchday audiences.

Challenge

African football has often been framed through outdated narratives and external perception. The opportunity was to reframe the tournament not just as competition, but as culture, pride, and collective joy, and to do so in a way that would travel globally across social platforms.

Idea

I created a spoken-word film that distilled the tournament’s defining moments into a poetic narrative, celebrating the players, fans, and atmosphere that made AFCON unforgettable. The piece positioned the tournament as a cultural force, not just a sporting event.

Execution

Commissioned directly by CAF, I wrote and performed the film, crafting a voice-led story that could live natively across digital platforms. The piece blended tournament footage with rhythmic narration, designed to resonate both on the continent and with global audiences.

Impact

The film became a first-of-its-kind storytelling format for AFCON, surpassing 10 million views across social platforms and helping shape a more culturally confident tone for future tournament coverage.
